“We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.”
-Anais Nin
When you put pen to paper or fingers to keyboard, writing the memory of a beautiful time or occasion, the rush of feeling and excitement washes over the senses. When I write of memories, I find myself awash in the smells and the feelings on my skin of the time.
Many a time I stay within the happy zones of memory to make sure that these sensations are not unpleasant or unhappy. But, even then with those memories there is an impression left so deep that it feels like it is happening all over again.
They say that people who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder feel those sensations as if they are happening to them in the moment over and over again. It is the same with writing a recollection of a good time which fills the senses with gratifying emotions allowing the writer and then later the reader to experience those moments that were important enough to write about at that time.
Passion for writing is the most important element in writing. Never stop being passionate about life and your surroundings and choose from that to write. Whatever your fascination or compulsion is, write about it and let it wash over others.
My infatuation with life and people in particular allow me the freedom and the honor and horror sometimes of writing about situations that may not be pleasant but powerful and amazing at the same time.
Write your passion and your memories. Make new memories if you do not have any to share. Just write.
