National Courtesy Day was designated for everyone to be kind and considerate to one another. Webster’s states that courtesy means: ‘the showing of politeness in one’s attitude and behavior towards others’.
Let us take this one step further today. Instead of just being civil and gallant, let’s just step it up a notch, deciding to treat others just the way we would like to be treated.
An old adage, an ancient theme, an age tired idea that seems to slip our minds. Keep on target and stay the course, it is important to be respectful. It is vital to be cordial. It is imperative to be gracious. Everything else is a moot point. All other interactions are deemed unnecessary and optional without those traits being in play.
Do unto other as you want done unto you. Nothing hard about that edict but the stubborn refusal to be obedient and considerate.
Please remember that just because I write this does not exempt me from the pitfalls of the crude and the rude behaviors that I just wrote against. I am, like everyone else in the same boat of self indulgent, inelegant and shabby behaviors.
God help us all!
