The chosen people did not follow Jesus because He told them that He was no politician, but their King and Teacher. Their expectation of the Savior Messiah was someone to lead them against the Romans or any other invasion. Jesus, was not their man. He was not a political leader.
There are times when an idea seems like a good solid, worthy one to pursue. It may not be wrong or bad, as it were. But, is it worthy of who we are in the Lord? Do we belong here in this world and is this our fight?
No, the answer is without hesitation, no. We are not politicians just like our Master was not. Nothing would induce Him to get involved in the intricate design of the leaders of the time. Staying above board, keeping our head above the muck is more important than touting some silly “issue” that is consuming the media and the Washington world of which we have no part.
We need to go back to ground zero! We need to go back to square one over and over again to the Cross of Salvation where it all started and continues to begin.
Do not go after hype and dogma, stay the way, keep focused on what is important and it is most certainly, not politics. When asked if they should pay taxes, Jesus was clear, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.”
There was no wishy washy answer to this, no beating around the bush. He was direct and succinct. This coin, this worldly piece of metal belongs to Caesar to whoever is in politics at the time, give it to them and concentrate on what matters, like living in the Lord and spiritual development while breaking the outer man.
On this President’s Day, a reminder: the political bone of contention of the time is not our business. We are not of that world. Stay out of it.
