Dear Baba Rumcake,
I need some advice,
I’m the mother of a young man who joined the military and is deployed overseas. He had a brief relationship with a young woman here in the states before he left but it was never serious and no commitments were made by either of them regarding the future.
After he got over there, he exchanged a few emails with this young woman. Mostly a general conversational nature, how are things there, what’s the latest here and that sort of thing. No romantic poetry or “I miss you, my darling” sort of stuff.
It’s my understanding that she sent him a few things for him and his friends to remind them of home. He was very appreciative and thanked her for them as I had raised him to always thank people and be courteous.
Since his life is literally on the line on an almost daily basis and he has many very serious responsibilities, he’s not always able to send letters or even emails back home as often as he would like.
Recently, this young woman has begun sending him very hateful emails and accusing him of all kinds of things. She’s even contacted me as well as other family members and said terrible things about him that aren’t true. Clearly, this woman has some type of emotional and/or mental issue that needs counseling or medication. To viciously attack a member of our armed forces who is currently risking his life to protect this country just floors me.
I’d like to call the police and have her arrested or at least get a restraining order to force her to stop contacting him, his family members, and his friends. But there’s no law to protect people from this type of jealous and possessive person. They only went out for a couple of months and it’s almost like Fatal Attraction being played out before me.
So my question is: Does anyone have any idea why I make up these ridiculous stories about this and other stories about my imaginary brother who won’t talk to me? I think I’m as mad as a hatter but that’s just my opinion.
Mad as a Hatter
Dear Hatter,
Liar Liar, stick your pants on fire!!
After I stopped laughing, I realized what I should say to you.
Start writing!
You took up too much of my page here but since it was great, I decided to post it, all.
You have an amazing imagination and it deserves printing. Start writing these wild stories that you weave and craft. Your imagination is not destructive, right now. It could get out of hand and someone could hurt.
So, get to it and start writing. Those ideas will develop into stories and eventually come up with a whole novel or two.
Write two pages a day.
Do not worry about how you write. Later after the ideas are set to paper, then the editing can happen. People are out there to help you with the editing and learning how to truly write.
Start writing.
God’s blessings on this first day of your writing career. Let me know how you do.
