Dear Baba Rumcake,
What is the best way to deal with sidewalk hogs?
I don’t feel like I should be the one to walk in the grass (or mud), because I am walking by myself.
I need to know the most polite way to handle this problem, while not just letting people walk all over me.
Trying to be Civil
Dear Trying to be Civil,
Stop completely stand your ground, let them walk around you. Common courtesy. Everyone knows to walk on the right. Easy but not done.
I congratulate your insight and your determination to do the right thing. People are much more rude and insensitive than they used to be on the whole. So, you can take the high road and always give way or stand your ground. It is really up to you.
Being a door mat will go so far and then you will be angry and that will help no one. So, if sometimes you feel like giving way without too much hassle, so be it. If not, then on those days just make a point and do not move.
As for everyone else, simple polite road rules should be observed so that we do not live in a jungle where anger and self importance is the state of affairs.
Road etiquette:
– Walk on the right side of the side walks.
– Do not walk three across and block the road.
– Single file whenever possible to let others pass.
– Step off the road every once in a while. It will not kill you.
– Be polite.
– Do unto others as you want done unto you.
