When God Places a Vision in Your Heart

_MG_4484.jpgWhen God puts a vision in your heart, do not discard it as just another dream unattainable and impossible. Nothing in this world is impossible unless you are asking outside of the will of God.

I am not talking prosperity gospel not talking having everything you want, not demanding what is not yours. I am talking a vision in your very heart and soul of what your life is in God.

Remember the first flush of love when you first met the Savior? Remember those moments when it was clear what He did for you? Moments like that are the ‘aha’ experiences where we know for sure of our communion with the Almighty.

Never place God in the small concepts of your own insecurities. Never put him in the narrow box of your imagination. He is bigger, stronger and so much more capable in your heart.

Bring the vision down off the shelf you left it to rot for years already. Bring it out to the light, dust it off and move on with the will of your Creator.

A Healthy Dose of Fear is Good

_MG_0218.jpgWhen we hear the word Fear, the connotation is negative. But is it always negative? The Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, says Proverbs. A healthy dose of fear keeps us safe and sound. If a child did not fear, he would put his hand on the stove and get burned. If a person did not fear drowning, they would jump in without knowing how to swim and drown.

Fear can be healthy with the right amount and the right situation for it. If a woman is not careful at night with a healthy amount of fear for her life and safety, she would walk in a dark parking lot and get hurt. Yes, the parking lot should be safe, but reality bites and parking lots at night are dangerous for women. There are some bad people out there.

In other words, we can substitute the word Fear, if you are so opposed to it, with respect. Respecting God or respecting His authority. Respecting the ocean and its mighty power and waves. Respecting our weaknesses and not badgering ourselves till we break.

Fear and Respect! Nothing wrong with a healthy dose of fear. Just keep it Simple and uncomplicated.

Gratitude for Freedoms as an Immigrant

An Immigrant’s View on Freedoms

I am an immigrant. Living in the US has been an adventure and a life changing experience.

I came from the wonderful metropolis of Cairo where I did most of the shopping for our family. When I took fruit home, half of it was rotten and inedible. The seller needed to get rid of his produce, hiding the mush at the bottom of the brown bag. I understand.

If we needed chicken, we stood in line and bought the whole chicken. Nothing was touchable. The store workers or the market people handled things and gave them to you. Very few choices.

Then I came to the States and walked into my first grocery store at the age of 22 in 1978:

A woman pawed through the peaches until she found the two she wanted. A man groped the apples choosing the few he deemed serviceable. Another lady, a mother with a child, picked out the chicken breasts and placed them in her cart. Another, man handled the melons, even lifting one to his nose to smell.

When I went to choose, I looked around making sure I was not going to get reprimanded for touching. Having experienced being slapped on the hand before, this paranoia was acceptable.

The wonder of choosing only what you need to eat. Things back home were never sold by piece. You bought by weight when you did not need all that. When I chose an apple and two peaches, I was in heaven!

The package of 8 drumsticks was astounding to me. The bodies of four chickens out there and I did not have to take them home. I walked out giggling with joy at the experience of choosing my own food. Dark meat only? What a dream!

I find myself grateful for my new home. I find myself in awe of my newfound freedoms in this country no matter how small they are in other people’s eyes.

Salma’s Easy Armenian No Mayo Potato Salad

Chie Sonia Salma’s Easy Armenian Potato Salad – No Mayo

Salma's Easy No-Mayo Armenian Potato Salad

Ingredients

  • 6 large potatoes
  • 6 scallions or 3 leaks
  • 1 bunch parsley
  • 8 cloves garlic (fewer if you like less garlicky taste)
  • 1/2 c fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 c olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp Pepper
  • Pinch of Turkish / Mexican Saffron (Safflower) or Cayenne Pepper to decorate.

Directions:

1- Boil potatoes unreeled with 1/2 tsp salt. Cool. Then peel and cut in small bite size pieces. Set aside.
2- Dice scallions three quarters of the way, into the green parts of the onion.
3- Dice parsley.
4- Peel and crush or slice garlic.
Salma's Easy No-Mayo Armenian Potato Salad - Prep5- Place together in a glass or stainless steel bowl: scallions, parsley and garlic.
6- Add lemon, olive oil, pepper and salt.
7- Let stand for 10 minutes.
8- Add potatoes to the bowl and mix well.
9- Let sit in refrigerator for at least an hour for best taste.

The goal is to get the lemon juice and the olive oil to saturate the whole mixture and not only coat the potatoes on the outside but get flavor inside the potatoes which could be bland.

Eat Pray Love All fixed Up

This month is Julia Roberts month on my site. I love the woman and will review four of her movies every Tuesday. I find her charming, alluring and the girl next door all rolled into one. She is a delight keeping herself out of the nasty limelight of Hollywood trash.

She made the movie! Eat Pray Love was one of the most annoying books ever. The heroine, a whiney self centered woman with no good reason for her selfish ambitions. A creepy personality with nothing lovable.

Roberts changed all that in the movie, making her one of the most charming and wonderful heroines of the new woman. In search of herself but without the whine, she created a searching character we could all as women, relate to. In search first for her own character, then for love, she takes an amazing trip to Europe then the Far East.

She shares the screen with handsome Javier Bardem, Richard Jenkins, her mentor and others who help her along the way.

A wonderful story of love. Love of all kinds, friendships, teachers and lovers. Wonderful movie!
