Black White But Mostly Grey

Grey areas were foreign to me. When I was going through hard times with my husband, I could not see beyond what is right and wrong in my own mind.

My job got me caring for an older lady who opened my eyes to some truths that could go both ways. What does it take for us as women to see a bad relationship we are nursing? What does it take for us to leave a bad situation?

Eleanor kept at it! The old woman kept talking and whispering in my ear. She did not push or suggest, she just shared her own life and thoughts. She guided me with an invisible kind hand to free my soul and heart from an oppressive marriage.

French Toast a la Salma for Eleanor

One of the foods I made for Eleanor was a spiced French Toast. Used to having her scrambled egg and toast every morning, I made her something new. She loved my cooking and gave me leeway to serve her new and delicious foods.

In the next few weeks, I will share some of the foods I made for her. Yes, she loved my cooking.

Ingredients:

1 egg
1/4 cup milk
Pinch Cardamon
Dash Allspice
2 pinches Cinnamon
1/4 tsp Vanilla
2 Slices of toast or Hawaiian Bread or potato Bread
Butter for frying
Maple syrup

Directions:

Beat egg and milk.
Add spices and vanilla. Set aside for a moment.
Heat butter in skillet.
Dunk each slice of bread covering both sides with spiced mixture.
Place in medium hot butter.
Brown on both sides.
After placing in serving plate, cover with Maple syrup.

When she tasted my concoction, she asked for it many times after that. Blind, all her other senses were enhanced and she appreciated the sensual flavors.

Caring For Eleanor

If abuse were defined only as physical abuse, then this book does not qualify. But, in the broad sense of the word and its reality, verbal and emotional abuse is an insidious disease that eats at the hearts of the victim.

Not one to want a label, Salma refuses to accept that her husband is one such man, a cruel, unkind partner who tears her down at every opportunity to make himself feel better. Life teaches her. Her children bless her. In her new job she learns of love and caring without the need for abuse.

A good book that will make you smile, cry and get frustrated at times. This is the book for women who need courage and hope without the man on the white horse saving them.

Should I change who I am for Him?

As a young woman first married I was so in love with my husband. There was nothing he would ask that I would not do. I waited on him, loved him and made sure he was comfortable at all times.

In retrospect, I realize my hand in spoiling and making him into the unkind man he turned out to be. My need to be a “good wife” caused harm in my marriage. One of my friends came to visit me and when she got married, she specifically told me that she refused to do certain things for her husband fearing he would treat her like mine did. Sigh!

So what to do? Should I change who I am? Should I be someone else just to make sure the man I am with will not behave poorly?

Do I continue to protect him, shield him from the outside world so they would not find out who he really is?

Godzilla As A Three Year Old

“Isn’t she adorable!” I commented to my husband.
“Yes,” he smirked, “in a Godzilla kind of way.”
“It is all perspective isn’t it?”
“Yes,” he responded, “What else will she crush that is not hers, as she gets older?”

I watched and this cute little adorable three year old was the makings of a selfish, self-centered young woman who thinks the world is hers to crush.

Her smiling adoring parents never once told her she should be mindful of her brother’s creations in the sand. No one instructed her to make her own then tromp all over them if she wanted to.

Am I being too harsh? Probably. Is it just child’s play? Probably.

On the other hand she will be the office employee who crushes the work of another either to get ahead or for her own enjoyment. She will be the one who is jealous of another person’s achievement and does what she could to crush it. She will be the one who hates her brother’s new wife who takes all the attention for one day. Shall I go on? Nah, I made my point.
